A couple weeks ago, my friends and I made a trip to Sonoma Valley for a weekend of wine tasting. If anyone has visited the famous California wine region, you would know the weather swings from super hot to super cold really fast. I knew I needed something that I could wear from morning until dinner time. This leopard print crêped dress from H&M was the winning choice.
I’ve been to Napa Valley a handful of times, but never really got the chance to explore Sonoma Valley. So this time around, we made it a point to stick only to the Sonoma area and wineries. There was actually a group of six of us which made it more fun. We rented a condo and spent all day Saturday and Sunday wine tasting. We had planned eight wineries which is super ambitious on our part. In the end, we made seven of them which I’m pretty proud of. The key is to drink lots of water. I mean LOTS!
Leopard Print Crepe Wrap Midi Dress (XS): I’m not that big of a leopard print fan, but there was something that drew me to this dress. It has the leopard feel, but a more modern not-in-your-face print which I like. The fabric is a stretchy material so not only is it comfortable, but can accommodate different body types. Since I’m petite, the length of the dress hits me about midi length. Also, I know it says “wrap dress,” but it is more of a pullover dress with a wrap style in the front. The waist tie is more for decoration rather than holding the dress in place.
Valentino Rockstud Booties (6): Okay, first have to say I LOVE these boots. The more and more I think about it, I can’t tell if I love heels or boots more. Either way, I probably spent at least 30 minutes in the store trying this particular pair on. I bought this when we were in Hawaii in July since Valentino was 20% off. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can read my full post here!
This style bootie comes in two heel heights (70mm and 100mm) and two types of leather (smooth and pebbled). Usually, for all my purses, I prefer the pebbled leather more since it tends to be more durable. For some reason, my eye was definitely drawn to the smooth leather. It looked more modern and slick, while the pebbled leather looked more dated. That choice was an easy one.
Now here came the hard part. Did I want the 70mm or the 100mm heel? If you have been reading my posts, I tend to have the mindset of “the higher the better.” I tried both on and both looked great, but I really wanted to wear this pair often. In the end, I decided the 70mm mostly for comfort. I could tell by the pitch of the 100mm that my feet and legs were going to get tired quickly.
So, you think my dilemma would end there. Nope! For some reason, my usual size (6.5) fit a little loose. So, I ask for a size 6 just to try and see. Surprisingly, it actually fit better which is weird because I feel like designer shoes always seem to run a little on the small side. I paced back and forth in the store trying each size on at least three times each. In the end, I decided the size 6.
Fast-forward to today and I finally got to break them out for our Sonoma wine-tasting trip. Well, guess what? It’s actually too tight! I can’t even believe it. I swear in the store, the 6.5 was too loose. Now thinking about it, it might have been because I only had those sheer shoes stockings that the store gives you when you try on shoes. So, we I finally put on real socks, it fit a little too snug.
On the bright side, at least it’s leather so hopefully once I break them in, it won’t feel as tight. So, please learn from my experience and always bring socks and trust your usual shoe size.
ASOS Baker Boy Cap: Last year, I bought a baker boy cap from Banana Republic Factory, but I wasn’t totally satisfied with it. The cap felt a little too small so I wanted to buy another one this year. I decided to give the ASOS brand a try since I have premier shipping with them so it would be easy to return if I didn’t like it. Well, I love it! I loved it so much that I bought it in two colors. This one definitely feels like better quality all around and it has a good weight on it so it won’t easily fall off your head.
